When a group of human survivors, led by “Elvis” (Willem Dafoe), captures Edward, they reveal a game-changing secret: a cure for vampirism exists. However, the cure has a terrifying side effect. As the blood shortage spirals into madness (vampires mutating into “Subsiders” – bat-like, feral creatures), Edward must choose between saving humanity or preserving the vampire race.
The story follows (Ethan Hawke), a vampire hematologist working for the massive corporation Bromley Marks . He is tasked with creating a synthetic blood substitute. Unlike his ruthless brother Frankie (Michael Dornan) and the corporate CEO Charles Bromley (Sam Neill), Edward retains his human empathy and refuses to feed on humans.
In the realm of sci-fi horror, few films have offered a twist as unique as the 2009 cult classic Daybreakers . Directed by the Spierig Brothers (Peter and Michael), this film presents a vampire dystopia where the tables have turned: humans are an endangered species, and vampires are running out of blood.
