Growing up in a family of music lovers, Similea was exposed to various genres of music from a young age. Her mother, a music teacher, encouraged her to pursue her passion for singing. Similea began singing in her school choir and later attended the Bucharest Music Academy, where she studied vocal performance.
Some of her most popular songs from this period include "Dragă-mi place să cânt" ("I Love to Sing"), "Nu te mai întoarce" ("Don't Come Back"), and "Sentimentalitate" ("Sentimentality"). These songs showcased Similea's impressive vocal range and emotional delivery, solidifying her position as one of Romania's leading vocalists.
Throughout her career, Similea has collaborated with numerous renowned artists, producers, and composers. In 2001, she released an album of traditional Romanian folk songs, accompanied by the Romanian Philharmonic Orchestra. This album, "Rădăcinile noastre" ("Our Roots"), highlighted Similea's deep connection to her cultural heritage.
Similea's unique voice and charismatic stage presence quickly made her a favorite among Romanian music fans. Throughout the 1980s, she released numerous hit singles and albums, which topped the Romanian music charts.
